myLot
myLot is a social networking question and answer site. You can ask and answer questions, participate in discussions, add your blog, make new friends and read the news. How does this pertain to small business? I use myLot and other sites like it to do research. Sometimes I answer questions about a topic that is covered by a client. Most of the time I search through questions and answers to find out the hot topics that affect my clients. I then take that information and write articles, blog posts, suggest new products, etc. The possibilities for research are endless. A word of warning though… time flies when you’re on myLot and it is easy to visit for five minutes and the realize five hours have passed. Better set up a timer on your desk when you get started with your research!
Blogger Review
I have used both Blogger and WordPress for blogging for some time now. My first blog “Articles That Sell Blog” is on the Blogger platform and this blog is on WordPress. Both platforms offer free hosting that offers a little less functionality than having your own web site host. I like both Blogger and WordPress but the Blogger seems to have a more robust support system and it is constantly being updated.
If you want to get started with a blog I suggest you start with Blogger and if you find that you like blogging you can consider upgrading and importing your blog into WordPress at a later date.

Microsoft Calculator Plus
Calculator Plus is a nifty, free calculator download from Microsoft. It has way more features than I can use but the functionality makes it more useful than the original calculator that you used to get with Windows.
You can use Calculator Plus to perform the standard operations of a hand held calculator. Calculator Plus performs basic arithmetic, such as addition and subtraction, as well as functions found on a scientific calculator, such as logarithms and factorials.
This is a free program that you should download and learn to use.
Paint.NET
Paint.NET is a fimage and photo editing software for Windows that I discovered on the web. It has many features that the simple Microsoft Paint does not include. It supports layers layers, unlimited undo and special effects.
It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool.
I did have to spend some time getting to know the software because I am not an experienced graphic or photo editor but once I figure out how to use Paint.NET I fell in love with it.
Review Of AuthorHouse
I’ve been involved in the publishing world for years starting with the self published books my speaker clients wrote to a recent client who is a book agent. I’ve researched self publishing companies for these clients and one name keeps coming up: AuthorHouse.
AuthorHouse is the largest self publishing company and was established in 1997 by an writer who wanted to become a published author. This gives AuthorHouse a unique perspective of offering value based on their understanding of the needs of self published authors. I really like the fact that authors remain in control of the publishing process from beginning to end. So many self published authors have complained to me that they lost control of their publishing with other self publishing companies but this will not happen with AuthorHouse.
AuthorHouse offers many services for authors and gives away a free publishing guide to potential authors who submit information about the book they want to publish. You will find their website easy to navigate and they do not hide their contact information like many other companies. If you want to give birth to your own book while controlling the publishing process then I recommend you call AuthorHouse.

Get My Time Review
I discovered a neat on-line time tracking system through my new relationship with AssistantMatch. It’s called Get My Time and it works to track the time you spend on clients and it integrates with QuickBooks.
The features of Get My Time includes:
- Work with your existing lists of Employees, Customers, Service Items, etc.
- Create Project Groups to control the customer and service items that a user has access to.
- Assign time entries to a project group for better reporting and tracking.
- Submit time entries for project tracking and invoicing.
- Select from multiple reports to best fit your needs.
- Export your time entries to a comma delimited file (.csv).
If you have employees or subcontractors you can configure your account to allow them to use the system as well. The learning curve for Get My Time was not very steep and they offer a free 30 day tried. You can get it at Get My Time.
Comment Hut Review
Comment Hub is a new piece of software that searches through Wordpress, Livejournal, Typepad blogs and Drupal, Squidoo and Hub Pages sites looking for keywords you specify. For instance, I have searched on “beauty tips” and Comment Hut has pulled up posts with these keywords that allow comments. I then visit each site, read the post and offer a link to a complimentary article or another beauty tip and then place a link back to the site I am promoting when allowed. Comment Hut does not automate making comments… this is done purposely so that you have to read the comments and create comments by hand. If you do this any other way then you are blog spamming. Comment Hut also lets you sort search results by Google PageRank which doesn’t seem relevant anymore but is a nice feature.
I highly recommend you download the trial version of Comment Hut and explore the software for yourself.
